Sterling Marlin Set to Pilot Coors Light Late Model at the Music City Motorplex

NASHVILLE, TN – Two time Daytona 500 winner, Sterling Marlin announced today his plans to compete in six events at the Fairground’s Music City Motorplex in Nashville this season, the 50th anniversary season on paved NASCAR racing at this historic venue.  Marlin will be sponsored Coors Light in these six events scheduled for May 10th, June 14th, July 18th, August 8th, August 30th and October 11th.  In addition to sponsoring Marlin in these events, Coors will be a sponsor of the Music City Motorplex, promoting the six events with promotional and discount tickets at retail accounts throughout the southeast in Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama and Mississippi.  In the Nashville area Daily’s Convenience Stores will partner with Coors to promote these events.

“Having Sterling compete with us this season is just incredible”, commented Motorplex General Manager, Ron Jennett. “With Coors support and a racing legend like Sterling, our 50th anniversary celebration will swing into high gear,” Jennett concluded.

Other racing celebrities that will be a part 2008 season at the Motorplex include Willie Allen, 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Rookie of the Year and ARCA and NASCAR Craftsman Truck veteran, Chase Montgomery.

Coors Light and Sterling picked up their first NASCAR Sprint Cup win together in 2001 at Michigan, with their last victory in 2002 at Darlington.  The Coors / Sterling partnership will make Sterling a threat every time he is on the track.

Sterling is no stranger to this historic track, scoring the Track Championship in 1980, 1981 and 1982.  He also competed in the NASCAR Sprint Cup races at the Motorplex nine times with one top ten finish.  More recently, Sterling competed at the Motorplex in the 2007 Southern 300 late model mechanical problems that forced him to early exit on his return to his home track.

Sterling’s father, the late Coo Coo Marlin, blazed the trail for Sterling at the Motorplex, winning Track Championships in 1959, 1963, 1965 and 1966.

On May 10th, June 14th, August 8th, Sterling will be competing in a Late Model Stock Car in NASCAR Whelen All American Series events.

On July 18th, Sterling will join other fifteen racing legends in Toyota’s Old School Racing event.  Expected stars include David Pearson, Harry Gant, Geoffrey Bodine, Dave Marcis, James Hylton, Dick Trickle and Joe Ruttman.  This Friday night event will precede the 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, July 19th, featuring the Strutmasters 150 presented by Dollar General, a NASCAR Camping World Series event.  On Sunday, July 20th the cars and stars of the CRA Late Model series will be featured in a 150 lap event.

On October 11th, Sterling will be competing in the Southern 300 in a Late Model.
